SISI Profile


Shanghai International Shipping Institute (SISI) was founded on 14th July, 2008. The unveiling of SISI was witnessed by Xu Zuyuan, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Transport, and Shen Jun, Vice Mayor of Shanghai. Han Zheng, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipa Committee and Mayor of Shanghai sent a letter of congratulations.


SISI, affiliated to Shanghai Maritime University, takes the council system as its management mechanism. It is jointly launched by 21 standing council members including China Shipping (Group) Company, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Shanghai Municipal Urban Construction &Communications Commission, Shanghai Maritime University, and People’s Government of Hongkou District, COSCO Container Lines Co. Ltd, Shanghai International Port (Group) Co. Ltd., Sinotrans Eastern Co. Ltd., Shanghai Jinjiang Shipping Company, Shanghai Municipal Transport and Port Authority, Shanghai Company, Shanghai Group Port Administration Committee, Shanghai Shipping Exchange, China Port Association, Shanghai Shipowners’ Association, Shanghai Freight Forwarders Association, World Maritime University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Ningbo University, Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade, Shanghai Customs College, and Hehai University etc. The number of its registered council members had already hit 246 by September 2011.


Against the backdrop of the construction of Shanghai International Shipping Centre, SISI aims at contributing its share to China’s maritime industry and the construction of Shanghai International Shipping Centre by establishing extensive ties with international maritime institutions, enterprises and colleges, networking global top experts, setting up and internationally open research platform, tracking fresh conception and technology, trends and system.


SISI is and institution of research and consultation on international maritime industry development, providing government and enterprises worldwide and maritime agencies with decision-making consultation and information service.


SISI is open to government agencies, port authorities, maritime companies, educational institutions, research institutes, industry associations etc.
